How to Lower Game Ping for Free

🎯 Guides & tips•⏱ 1 min read•2026-07-08

Ping is how long it takes for your message to reach the game server and come back. The lower that number, the smoother the game. High ping makes your character move with delay or "jump" at critical moments.

First, find where the problem is

Before anything else, check your game's connection status on your carrier. On Pingban you can see whether your game is online, laggy, or down right now. If the issue is on the server or carrier side, no phone setting will help.

Free tricks

  • Switch to gaming DNS: Sometimes changing DNS alone finds a better route to the server. We have a list of the best DNS options in this guide.
  • Get closer to Wi‑Fi: Distance and walls weaken the signal. Use a cable if you can.
  • Stop downloads and updates: When another app is downloading, your game gets less bandwidth.
  • Close background apps: Open apps eat both internet and phone RAM.
  • Know peak hours: At night when everyone is online, the network is busier.

💡 Tip: Under 60 ms is great, 60–100 is good, and above 150 gets annoying.

When it's not your fault

If you've done all of this and ping is still high, the problem is probably the network or game server. Wait it out or try another carrier/DNS. To see which carrier works best for your game, check the Playable? page.

Low ping is half the win. The rest is up to your practice!
