Phone Getting Hot While Gaming? Do This
When your phone gets hot, it slows down to protect itself (that's called throttling) and your game lags. Let's see how to keep overheating in check.
Why does the phone get hot?
Heavy games push the CPU and GPU hard, which creates heat. Charging at the same time and a warm environment make it worse.
What should you do?
- Don't charge while gaming: charging + gaming = two heat sources at once.
- Remove a thick case: a bulky case traps heat like a blanket.
- Lower graphics a bit: less load on the processor = less heat.
- Play somewhere cool: avoid direct sunlight or a hot room.
- Close background apps: the less it runs, the cooler it stays.
⚠️ If the phone gets very hot, give it a few minutes to rest. Excessive heat damages the battery and components.
Normal vs abnormal heat
A little warmth during heavy gaming is normal. But if the phone gets hot very quickly and very often, the game may be too demanding. Check on GameBench whether your phone is a good fit for that game.
Try lighter games
If one game always makes your phone hot and laggy, you might be better off with lighter, smaller games that run more smoothly.
A cool phone plays smoother and lasts longer.
